My Favorite Piece...EVER

Okay, so I've created my favorite piece of art to date. Periodically this happens where you finish a piece in which you surprise yourself of what you are capable of. This is such a piece. Sometimes you wonder what happened on that particular day. Was it the blend of coffee I drank? Was it the Seinfeld episode that was on the night before? Who knows? All I know it is moments like this that keep me creating. Making art is emotionally exhausting, and very seldom a blissfull experience. For me it is a battle with myself to find something worthy of sharing. Some pieces are less of a battle and fall right into place, while others drive me to the brink of smashing the art into smithereens.

Like most of my work, the piece is intuitive. At first I had no idea what it was about, then, at the end of the internal tug of war, I realized it's meaning. It's quite a personal piece and won't go into detail, but it has to do with the city of Sienna, Italy...thus the title "Sienna"

Hope you enjoy,
ciao,
Michael

I love all of your work and it would be hard for me to pick a favorite!
Any possibility you might teach some of the techniques that you used on this piece in your workshop in Saluda, NC in May?

Well that is way freaking cool! Are those carseat beads in the upper left corner?

I like it. Love the contrast of dark and smoldering at the bottom and patina on top.

heehee Jane called you an onion :D

I love your new piece too Mr Michael. I'm guessing you must've used a whole tube of leeeequid nails on it. I think of you every time I pass the stuff in the store (I still think they should be sponsoring you and giving it to you for FREE).

Hope you are well. I will probably see you in Virginia next May.

A truly incredible piece of art, Michael - I especially love all the small details.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the creation process - don't you just love it when it all comes into place in the end? You definitely created a true beauty here =)!

i appreciate your sharing part of your realization process with us Michael. i've had similar experiences and find in those brief moments, everything seems right with the world... my world anyway. i find it fascinating when the meaning of a piece is revealed to me in the final acts of completion... the last strokes laid or the final marks made. and yet, there are those pieces whose meanings aren't revealed until weeks or months later... as if they were trying to tell me of the future. i'm glad for those pieces as well. thank you for this contemplative opportunity.
hasta luego,
Mija

How big is that piece? I couldn't tell its scale. Thanks for showing it. It's super as is all your work.
